The highest SPF ratings do not always offer protection worth the price increase. The SPF 30 suntan lotions offer about 93% protection from the sun. The SPF 45 offers about 97% protection, which is not much more. The extra percentages may not be worth the additional cost. When purchasing a suntan lotion be sure UVA/UVB protection is offered and be sure to keep in mind that the chemicals in the suntan lotion breakdown in about one year requiring you to purchase new lotions. Ensure you purchase the lotions most recently stocked on the shelves.

     Many people also claim SPF 15 is suitable protection at a cheaper price than SPF 30. Decide which you are more comfortable purchasing?
