Pest control's best kept secret!

A secret tool utilized by pest control to control insects is boric acid powder. The powder is an inexpensive (odorless and non-staining) alternative to costly pest control service for controlling pests such as roaches, ants, fleas, and silverfish. Sprinkle the powder in/around/under/behind cabinets, baseboards, electric/phone/cable outlets, refrigerator, stove, sink, washer/dryer, dishwasher, attic, garage, and any cracks and crevices. Although, ensure the powder is not placed in an area accessible to children and pets because it is harmful if ingested. The insects will ingest the powder and walk through it trailing the powder to their nest for the other insects to ingest and to die within hours. Purchase the powder containing 100% boric acid, as opposed to some products containing a percentage, for about $2 - $4 per pound at a hardware store. Keep in mind several dozen pounds will be necessary to protect your home.

A great and easy way to protect a new home being built is to spread the boric acid powder throughout the house before the drywall, insulation, ceiling, flooring, and cabinets are installed. Also, consider treating your new home for termites using a termite control product, such as TimborŪ, which is applied to the wood. The easiest way to apply the product is before the drywall and insulation is installed, but it can still be applied afterwards.

Consider taking care of your pest control problems yourself. Look in the yellow pages for a do-it-yourself pest control company which offers the same products used by professionals, ask someone at your local hardware store, or do some research on the internet.
