Learn a new skill and do-it-yourself.

Many tasks, home improvement, and repairs that are part of everyday life can be performed by yourself without having to hire someone to do it for you. Embrace the opportunity to learn a new skill by performing easy to average tasks yourself. Contact friends, consult home improvement books and web sites (i.e. http://www.doityourself.com), and attend do-it-yourself seminars offered by local hardware stores (i.e. Home DepotŪ and LowesŪ). Although, consider hiring someone, as necessary, for major tasks beyond your experience level and to ensure you meet government codes and laws. Otherwise, you may have to spend more to not only perform the original task, but to fix the problem(s) you caused.
