     Contact the customer service department, which is usually an 800 number listed on the product, detailing the nature of your complaint. Typically you will be refunded the purchase price and/or receive coupons for the same product or other products offered by the company as compensation.

     The same advice can be used at the grocery store by presenting the product and your complaint to the customer service counter. Most stores have a satisfaction guarantee policy entitling you to exchange the product or receive a refund.

     Many companies offer a 100% money back guarantee because they are betting the consumer will not return a product even if they are not satisfied. Remember that a refund may not be granted without the original receipt.
